|Vanuatu To Join The World’s Optical Fibre Internet Backbone|
As part of the Government Vanuatu’s commitment to encourage the development of e-business and IT infra- structure, the Vanuatu Government has thrown it’s full support behind the current Joint Venture project between Interchange Limited, a Vanuatu local IT company and Alcatel-Lucent, the giant French telecommunications company to deploy Vanuatu’s first international submarine cable system linking Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, to Suva, Fiji.

|Work Permit application|
Any non citizen investors intending to employ non-citizens for their business are required to apply for a Work Permit Approval from the Department of Labour.
Permits are only granted to applicants where there are no citizens available locally with the required qualifications to fill such positions.
The procedure is to first advertise the vacant position for 2 consecutive weeks in any local newspaper. Proof of these advertisements, i.e. cut outs of the adverts from the media are attached with the application for the successful non-citizen applicant when submitted to the Department of Labour.
An application fee of Vt10, 000 plus the first year’s Work Permit fee of Vt200, 000 must be enclosed with the application.
This Permit is valid for 1 year renewable by going through the same advertising procedure and re-applying.
For example businesses carrying on software sales and maintenance may bring in specialist to train their own personnel and/or clients on newly launched software programmes, i.e. banking softwares etc.
